Eagles get 200 Free Relay cut in route to win over Milford

The Hartland Boys Swim and Dive team win their 4th West division meet of the season with a 136-50 win over Milford. The Eagles took 1-2-3 in 5 events and won 11 out of 12 events to secure the win. Leading the way was the 200 Free Relay of Jacob Scherba, Bryan Condra, Trey Conner, and Scott Pelland with a state qualifying time in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:32.11. Event winners tonight included:

The meet gave the team a chance to swim some events that they don’t normally get to swim and opened up some interesting ideas going forward for the rest of the season! The Eagles will be back in action next Thursday as they travel to arch rival Howell for the final dual meet of the season. The meet is slated to start at 6:00 PM.

Underclassmen place 6th at the Clash

Despite only having 10 individuals at the meet, the underclassmen were able to take 6th place with 254 points at the Howell Clash of the Underclassmen today. In spite of being outnumbered by almost every team by nearly double the number of swimmers/divers, the Eagles were able to compete very well. Ann Arbor Skyline won the meet running away with 550 points with North Farmington taking runner-up honors with 313 points. Brighton finished 3rd with 309, South Lyon in 4th with 294, and Howell at 285.

The Eagles were led by sophomore Jacob Scherba who had a pair of runner up finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyles slightly bettering his season best times. Derek Ballou was next best with two 4th place finishes in the 200 and 500 freestyles. Nick Zayan secured 7th place finishes in both the 200 and 100 freestyles while James Hansen finished 7th in the 50 and 9th in the 100 breast. Josh Freshour had two lifetime bests placing 21st in the 50 and 16th in the 100 free earning a medal in the latter. Sean Virden medaled in two events placing 10th and 9th in the 200 and 500 freestyles respectively. Lone freshman swimmer David Terrio scored in both the 200 Free (12th) and 100 Free (14th). Divers Mitchell McCann, Jonas Zebari, and Chris Cencer all came up big placing 4th, 7th, and 9th respectively.

Our three relays finished with an 8th place in the 200 Medley (Ballou, Hansen, Terrio, Freshour), 4th in the 200 Free (Scherba, Zayan, Virden, Hansen), and 3rd in the 400 Free (Zayan, Virden, Ballou, Scherba). Despite being severally out numbered, the Eagles were able to be in the hunt for a majority of the meet until swims and bodies began to grow thin. Regardless, the Eagles have a bright future with many great swims!

The Hartland Boys Swim and Dive team will be back in action next Thursday as they travel to Milford for a Division meet. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM at Milford High School.

Eagles alone at the top of KLAA West Division Standings

The Eagles headed north to Grand Blanc and came away with a 123.5-62.5 victory. The win places the Eagles in control of their own destiny in their quest for a KLAA West Division Crown as the win moves them to 3-0 KLAA West, 5-3 overall. The Eagles were led by double event winners Jacob Scherba (50 and 100 Free), Matt Polkowski (200 Free and 100 Fly), and James Strandbergh (200 IM and 100 Breast). The Eagles won all 12 events in route to the win over rival Grand Blanc. Other event winners included Mitchell McCann in Diving, Derek Ballou in the 500, and Bryan Condra in the 100 Back.

On Saturday, the Eagles will be back in action on Saturday as the underclassmen will be off to Howell to compete in the Clash of the Underclassmen. Diving starts at 9:00 AM and the swimming will begin at 1:00 PM. at Parker Middle School in Howell.

Division Lead is on the line Thursday at Grand Blanc

The Eagles will be heading north up US23 to swim Grand Blanc on Thursday. The meet is slated to begin at 6:00 PM at Grand Blanc High School. Directions to Grand Blanc High School can be found below! The meet will determine who takes the division lead as both teams are 2-0 in the KLAA West Division. Grand Blanc is coming off a tight win over Howell 96-90. The Eagles are fresh off a 143-42 win over visiting Pinckney on Senior Night. Come support the Eagles in their quest for a Division title.

Seniors lead team to win over visiting Pinckney

On Senior night, the 2012 class of seniors went out with a bang by defeating division rival Pinckney 143-42. Eight seniors swam their last home meet which included Trey Conner, Ryan Egeland, Dennis Gramer, Charlie Locker, Scott Pelland, Sven Stroven, James Strandbergh, and Michael Terrio. The seniors contributed to 7 wins in a meet that the Eagles swept all 12 events. Event winners in the meet included the following:

There were numerous great swims during this meet. It was a great way to send out the seniors. The Eagles will be back in action next Thursday when they travel to face West division leading Grand Blanc. The meet is slated to start at 6:00 PM at Grand Blanc High School.
